Cleaning chemicals, detergents, deodorants and optical brighteners, are applied to the carpet using a brush or rotating pad. While some of the dirt is transferred to the brush or pad. The carpet appears brighter and cleaner, but most of the dirt has just been rubbed in, spread around, or disguised by the optical brighteners and deodorants.
Chemical residues remain on the carpet after "dry cleaning". This is bad environmentally and destroys the stain resistance of the carpet. Stains will often reappear.
Optical brighteners cause damage to some carpets especially wool.
Some of the companies offering carpet dry cleaning actually bring "Carpet Steam Cleaning" machinery to the job. On arrival they will attempt to convert you to "Steam Cleaning".
Dry Cleaners sometimes refer to mysterious vapours, Dry Steam, or various forms of electrical energy , or imply that electrons attached to dirt are magnetically removed from the carpet using electrical energy or some mystical force. It’s nonsense.
